This has already been reported and I'm 100% sure there is no bug here.
A Rotation gear is not a normal square.

Thanks for clarifying, it just seems strange that it can be used across a pit but not a rotation gear, but I see your point about a "normal"square.
I have a related question. I once tried to attack a character in mist from two squares away using the spear, but wasn't allowed to. I assumed that using the spear is close combat, which mist doesn't protect from. Why doesn't that work?

This game at move 533, I wanted to attack the wizard in the mist. Was it not possible because a bridge is not a normal square?
